I've had people ask me why Europeans are always so interested in Texas. Americans are not all cowboys, I'm told, with that slight tone of embarrassment. Of course, you could just turn that around and say that not all Germans wear lederhosen. But to be more serious Texas is a very un-European world, a world very different from many of those other US cities or states people know about in Europe. And that fascinates Europeans.
