Motels is watered down Alec Soth...but Motels: San Diego is a stand out.
Cheers.

There are dozens, if not hundred or thousands, of photographers who are doing the lower middle class heartland of America thing. It started well before Soth and will be sure to continue. I guess it's a sign of our economic climate and times. It's hard to appreciate any of this work knowing that it isn't original. That doesn't make it bad...just boring. Kind of like all the banal German photographers influenced by the successful Dusseldorf Academy shooters. I think we desperately need something new to emerge and energize photography. Once something gets some traction, a ton of copycats follow. From all I've been seeing and reading, it seems that fashion photography is the next hot thing...again. It's barely started and I'm already bored with it.
